Let's just move past the fact that I said I'd be back here with lots of posts and then didn't follow through, ok? Because we've got bigger things to talk about!
Cammy had his first day of Pre-K today!!!
Yes, that's right. Our baby boy, the one who we decided not to send to preschool 8 months ago because we didn't feel was ready, went to school today. For 3 hours. And LOVED it. I'm elated to say that the first day was a success on all accounts. There was no crying, neither from Cameron nor his parents, nor was there any vomiting on the part of his worry-some parents. Because, let's face it folks, when you send your non-verbal autistic child off to a whole new world of which you are not a part, it's difficult!
Cameron walked right into his classroom and sat down at the table. He has a para (short for para-professional) who will be with him guiding him throughout every morning he's at school. She seemed nice, though for the life of us we can't remember her name! I'll be sure to learn it when we go back on Thursday! His teacher is a very sweet, patient woman who seems genuinely excited to have Cameron this year. She has told us on numerous occasions that she will do whatever is necessary to make Cameron feel welcome and comfortable in the classroom.
Cody and I had a leisurely breakfast out after the drop-off. I mean, really, who knew those existed?! I am still in awe that I never had to say once during the meal, "Please get out from underneath the table," nor did I ever have to tell Cody multiple times to eat his meal. I don't think it gets much better than that!
We are so excited to see where this adventure takes our boy. I think a lot of people I've talked to today are surprised that I didn't cry, but I'm actually really excited about it. Cameron has been doing amazing, great things in his therapies and at home in the past few months and I really feel that school is just going to be a catalyst to even greater things. So stick around, folks, because I'm pretty sure you are about to witness something wildly spectacular.
